Maltby Nature Preserve

The woods, meadows and prairie of the Maltby Nature Preserve provide habitat for animals from the tiny field mouse and short tailed shrew up to the red and gray fox, coyote, bobcat and white tailed deer.

Volunteers work to maintain and restore the preserve.

Volunteers can help with important projects, such as prairie restoration.

In the years since aquiring the property, truckloads of trash have been removed, hiking trails opened throughout the property, meadows and prairie restoration begun, thousands of trees planted and the clearing of the ubiquitous buckthorn started.

The Maltby Nature Preserve is a 90-acre wildlife sanctuary and environmental education facility located on the Cannon River between Northfield and Cannon Falls in southeastern Minnesota. The Preserve is dedicated to family-based interactive environmental and outdoor education. Volunteers are needed to help with environmental restoration and programming work. Transportation is provided.
