Bobbi Greenfield

Hometown: Vermillion, SD

Major: Undecided

I've worked with some great teachers at both of the elementary schools I've worked at. I can tell they really appreciate the time I spend helping out in their classrooms. It can be difficult for a teacher to work individually with the students who need it--especially in some of the bigger classes. The students are so fun to work with! I truly love working with them and watching as they improve week by week. Tutoring in the elementary schools is so rewarding! I know that each time I go to work, I'm making a difference for at least one student.

The transportation options make it much easier to actually get to the schools as well as to get there more often. It can be really difficult to find time during the day to go to the schools, plus work around your own class schedule and other commitments. I think Carleton makes it about as easy as they possibly can to work in the community.

The Northfield Reads and Counts Program has had a profound effect on my choice of career. I thought that teaching was probably a career I would never pursue, but working so closely with students and seeing how much of a difference I can make has shown me how much I enjoy helping children. I plan on teaching at the high school level after I graduate from Carleton.
