A workshop to familiarize landowners and volunteers with prescribed burning techniques in grasslands.  Hosted by the Carleton College Cowling Arboretum with the assistance of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Your registration must be received by December 1, 2015 to hold your place in this workshop.

Classroom portion: Saturday, December 5, 2015, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.


Field Portion: Saturday, April 2, 2016, 12:30 p.m.  - 5:00 p.m.

This workshop is designed for private landowners and volunteers to learn the basics of prescribed burning in grassland situations.  Participants will learn about the role of fire in habitat management, basic prescribed burning methods, and will apply some methods in the field to hone their skills. The classroom session will be held in December, followed by an afternoon prescribed burn in the field (weather permitting) in April.

To register, fill out the on-line registration form and send your payment (checks only) to the Arboretum.  There is a charge of $25.00 for this workshop to cover materials.  Coffee/tea/juice break will be provided each day; participants must bring any desired snacks.

You must be 18 years of age to participate in this workshop.  All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to participating in the training burn.

The workshop may be cancelled if fewer than 12 participants register. Fees will be refunded if canceled by the organizers. Once we receive your registration form and fee we will send you an agenda, directions to the training site and other details.
