Knights of Carleton Convocation - "Songs of Carleton's First 50 Years"
November 10, 1989
Introduction by a non-student Mark Green, this college archivist brought the song book to the attention of Joe Weisman and the Knights. The virility, eloquence and talent of the knights were like advertising for the college. During the Depression the men in singing groups popularized the school's fight songs and grew to be cultural ambassadors.
In 1947, the Overtones was a touring men’s glee club; the traveling companions of their sister a cappella group the Keynotes. In 1979 another female singing group, the Knightingales, were formed and proved to be competition for the Knights. Since then, the group has been flourishing while satying true to their deep roots at Carleton.
