Writing Center
Mission
We exist to support all Carleton students on any academic writing project and at any stage in the writing process, from brainstorming to polishing a final draft. Our mission is to improve writers, not just individual pieces of writing. We believe all writers, no matter what their experience with writing has been, can benefit from the opportunity to talk with a trained consultant who genuinely wants to listen to and discuss an individual’s writing. Because we are process-oriented rather than product-oriented, our goal is to suggest focused writing and revising strategies that writers can apply to more than just one piece of writing.

New Resources on Visual Rhetoric and Visual Design
The writing center has a growing library of excellent books about visual rhetoric, visual design, and visual communication. If you have an upcoming project that requires you to combine image and text (e.g., a poster presentation, a website, etc.), please check out our resource library. The books are non-circulating, but you don't need an appointment to use these resources. Drop in and see what we've got: 2nd floor of Scoville.
