Choice
Choice is one question with an unlimited amount of answers. This can be useful for finding out when the best office hours would be, what topics students would like to discuss more, signing up for group projects or research topics, and more. It is similar to an online poll.
- Click on Add an Activity and select Choice.
- Give your Choice a name.
- In the text box labeled Choice Text, type the question.

- Below the text box is a check box that says Limit. If you would like to limit the number of people who can pick each answer (e.g., picking groups for projects or research topics), select enable.
- Choice 1, 2, and so on are the answers. Fill in the answers you want.
- If you turned on Limiting, type the number of responses you wish to allow for each answer on the line below the answer (the number varies by answer).
- If you need more answers than the number given to you, click on the Add 3 Fields to Form button at the end of the answer section.
- Below the Choice section is a place where you can set boundaries on when the students can answer the question. Remember, Moodle operates on a 24 hour clock.
- The next setting is how the answers are displayed. If you have only a few short answers, horizontal might be best. Longer answers are best displayed vertically. Note that the text is below the button for horizontal, and to the right for vertical.
- Next you can choose to make the responses public, private, to students after they make a choice, or after the deadline.
- If you publish the results, you can determine whether or not to show who picked which choice.
- You can allow students to update their choice or prevent them from answering the question more than once.
- The Show Column for Unanswered option allows you to view those who have not yet answered on the results page.
- Save Changes.

- To see who answered what, click on the View Results link in the top right corner underneath the Update this Choice button.
- If you want to show the results in a table or graph, click on the Download in Excel format button underneath the list of responses, and then manipulate the data in Excel or a similar spreadsheet program.
