NanoGong

NanoGong is a feature that can record and play sound clips in your Moodle page. It is available as an activity, in which students can record sound clips for a course, and as an icon the HTML editor, which allows a teacher to record a clip for students to listen to. This versatility allows you to insert and receive sound clips in a variety of contexts and lesson plans.

NanoGong Activity

  • Go to the “Add an Activity” drop-down menu and select “NanoGong”.
  • Give the NanoGong a title.
  • Give a brief description of the activity and directions for the students to follow.
  • Below the description box, there is an option for Maximum Score. It is set at 100. You can change it, if you like, but it’s not necessary.
  • On the following page, you see the student view of the activity.

NanoGong Recorder

There, students can record using the red “Record” button and listen to their clip using the “Play” and “Stop” buttons. The two buttons to the right of the “Stop” button can increase or decrease the speed of the sound file. The very last button on the right gives the option to save a copy of the file to a desired location on your computer. This, however, is not necessary, and the activity will still be submitted to Moodle.

  • Below the NanoGong recorder is a box in which students can include a brief description of their recording or other important text that the assignment may require.

NanoGong in the HTML Editor

  • In the HTML Editor box, click on the “Insert/Modify Sound” icon.NanoGong Icon Editor
  • A window will appear with a sound recorder and a caption box. Record the desired clip and fill in the space for the caption, which will appear next to the NanoGong icon in the final Moodle page. However, this caption will no appear in your editing text box. Any text typed next to the icon will appear in a larger font next to the caption text in the final Moodle page.
  • Continue editing the rest of the page with your standard formatting. In the final page, students can listen to the recorded clip, but cannot edit it.
  • In order to listen to the file, students must click on the icon. The audio player covers up text, so to hide it again, they must click the icon a second time.NanoGong Icon
