Creating ContentDM image pages
ContentDM is home to many of Carleton’s digital images, and is maintained by Heidi Eyestone, our Visual Resources Curator. You can access Content DM at https://contentdm.carleton.edu/
One of the nice things about ContentDM is the way it can create webpages from a group of images that you pick, and that the page can then be loaded into Moodle. The following instructions detail how to set up a ContentDM page, and then post it on Moodle.
- In Firefox or another web browser, type the address https://contentdm.carleton.edu
- You may log in, but it isn’t necessary (note, if you are off-campus, you may need to use an off-campus link, which will be on the top right of the ContentDM page)
- If you do not log in, click on the My Favorites link at the very top of the page, and make sure there are no images already in the favorites. If there are, log in with your username in case someone else is using that image group.
- Click on the Advanced Search button at the top of the window
- Search the collection with whatever words and fields you select (for best results, keep your search simple, unless you are looking for only one image)

- On the results page(s), check the images you would like to save as a webpage. Before moving between pages, click on the Add to Favorites links at the top left or bottom left of the results page (in the thin green bar)
- Repeat for every page that has images you wish to save
- When you have all the images you want for one page, click on the My Favorites link at the top of the page
- In the left sidebar at the bottom is a section called “Save as a Web page.” Where it says My Favorites, replace My Favorites with the title of the image group, what you want to appear at the top of your webpage

- Click the Create button next to the new title for the image group
- Now your webpage is created. In order to put it in Moodle, or share it with others, you need to copy the page. Go to the Edit menu in your browser, and choose Select All, then Copy.

When you are done, return to the ContentDM favorites page, and remove the images from favorites so they are not added to any future image groups (so there aren’t Degas images with images of Van Gogh, unless you want them to be that way on the next webpage you create).
- On the My Favorites page in the sidebar on the left, above the Create webpage section, is a list of images by number. Scroll down in the list until the All option at the bottom of the list, select All, and then click the Remove button below the list.
- Confirm that you want to delete those images from your group.
Now you are finished in ContentDM, and it is ready for the next image group to be created. It is time to go in Moodle and paste the webpage into a new page in Moodle.
- Log in to Moodle, go to your course, and turn on Editing. In the appropriate week of your course, choose Add a Resource, Compose a Webpage.
- Name the item such that students will know what the page is.
- Click in the Full Text box, and then go to the Edit menu and choose paste. You should see the images and border of the ContentDM page in the box.

- Now click the Save Changes and Return to Course button at the bottom, and you are done.
