Scanning on a Mac
- Click on Epson Scan software.
- Check scanner to see that it’s on, green light indicates on. Open scanner, check for dirt and dust, wipe clean.
- In the window that pops up select Professional Mode.
- Set resolution to 72 or 96 dpi for Powerpoint or the web. Set the resolution for 150 dpi for low resolution printing, 300-600 dpi for high resolution printing. If you are making archival scans, the resolution should be set at 600 dpi or higher.
- Click on Descreening Filter at the bottom of the settings window
- Place item on the glass and click Preview.
- Crop the image by drawing a box around it.
- Set Target Size (expand window by clicking on lower right corner and dragging) to 3,000 pixels on the longest side of the image.
- Click Scan
- Save the image, title as desired. Tiffs are recommended for archival purposes, images for the web should be jpgs. If you make tiffs, jpgs or any other image format can be made as derivatives of any size. If you only make jpgs your images will be ready for the web but will not make good derivatives in other formats and as changes are made to them, data will be lost.
- Repeat from step 6. Watch the Descreening Filter as it may shut off by itself. The image type setting and saving protocol should remain the same throughout your scanning session.
