FAQ and Other Tips and Tricks

This page is home to our FAQ, where you can find information on all sorts of things, from useful info about using Moodle and Google Docs to how to give someone access to course materials.  If you have any questions you would like to see us add answers to, please email us.

Since we have many questions answered here, we recommend that you either search by entering a keyword or by choosing a category in the blue box below instead of browsing the entire set.  For ease of use, we have links to broad categories below, but if you are looking for something that does not fit these categories, more are available in the drop-down menu in the blue box.  You may choose to add a focus (second category) to narrow your search.

How do I link to a webpage from Google Docs? Can I also link to email addresses, other documents, or bookmarks in the same file?

In a document, you can link to webpages, email addresses, other documents, and bookmarks in the current document.

  •  Choose Link from the toolbar at the top of the page.
  • Click next to the desired type of link and enter or choose the desired location.  In the Link Display section you can choose what text is visible on the screen.
  • When you are done click Insert to add the link.
  • When you click in the text for the link, a balloon will pop up which will allow you to follow the link or change or remove it.

Spreadsheets only accept links to webpages.

  • Type the address into a cell.
  • When you click on the cell, the "open in new window" icon (two squares, one with an arrow) will appear to the left of the cell.  Click on that to open the link in a new tab or window.

Presentations allow links to webpages or email addresses.

  • Choose Link from the toolbar at the top of the page.
  • Enter the text of the link that you want to show up in your presentation.
  • Choose whether you are linking to a webpage or an email address and then enter the URL/email address.
  • When you click in the text for the link, a balloon will pop up which will allow you to follow the link or change or remove it.
  • Keywords: Google Docs, help, link
