  • Online Ordering in Print Services

    January 3, 2012

Print Services in Leighton 128 has recently deployed web-to-print software with convenient online ordering and tracking.

  • Upcoming Vending Changes

    December 12, 2011

There will be two changes at Carleton vending machines beginning in January. Following a recent request by the Carleton group “Take Back the Tap,” the Carleton Student Association Senate voted last month to remove bottled water from campus vending machines. Similar actions have recently been taken at Macalester College and the College of St. Benedict. See the minutes from the October 24 CSA Senate meeting for more information. Bottled water will continue to be available in the Bookstore and Sayles Café.

The contract for snack vending was renewed in November and calls for a slight price increase for two classes of snacks. Beginning in January, bagged chips will be $1.25 and candy will be $1.10. There have been no price increases on any snack items for the past three years, yet our supplier’s expenses have grown significantly during that period. To avoid having to juggle loose change, purchase snacks with your OneCard whenever possible. Vending machines in Burton, Sayles-Hill, Leighton, and Laird have card readers installed.

  • Digital Signage Arrives at Carleton

    November 15, 2011

The digital signage program that was announced last spring is now up and running. A campus-wide rollout will be gradual as we learn more about the potential of the software and receive comments from the community. Right now the system is broadcasting digital posters publicizing events and services put on by departments and student groups, the College events calendar for the day, and current weather information for the week.

Monitors have been installed in Sayles Great Space, East Dining Hall, and the Library. Soon to come will be monitors in Burton Dining Hall, Admissions, Student Activities Office, and the Weitz Center.

Visit the Web site for more information about the digital signage program, and if you have digital posters to submit for broadcast, click on “Publishing on the Signs” and look for the link “Poster Submission Form.”

  • LDC Goes Trayless 7 Days a Week

    November 3, 2011

Last year Tuesdays were known as “Trayless Tuesdays” at East Dining Hall. Organized by two of Carleton’s Sustainability Assistants and supported by the CSA Senate, the program encouraged  students to eat their Tuesday meals without using trays. Some students resisted the program, but enough participated that Senate passed a resolution supporting trayless dining seven days a week at LDC for the current academic year.

“Trayless Everyday”  began when Early Arrival students came to campus on August 14th and is now in its 8th week.  Trays are always available for students who want them, but most students seem to be acclimating well to the change. The goal of this program is to reduce food waste by as much as 20% over time.
