Metro Arts Access Fund
Metro Arts Access: What is it?
The Metro Arts Access (MAA) is a program cooperatively funded by Campus Activities and the Carleton Student Association (CSA). The program is designed to assist students wishing to defray costs for attending events in the Minneapolis – St. Paul metropolitan area. MAA funding covers the cost of transportation to and from the Twin Cities.
How does an event qualify for MAA funding?
To qualify for MAA funding, events must fulfill each of the following conditions:
- Take place in the Twin Cities area.
- Be open to all Carleton students.
- Be student-initiated (events specified for a particular department or class don't qualify).
- Be advertised thoroughly across campus.
What kinds of events have received funds through MAA in the past?
- Carleton Bands Night at the 400 Bar
- At the Ordway Center for Performing Arts: Tangos, The Good Body, and Les Miserables
- Minnesota Twins baseball game
- Minnesota Renaissance Festival
- Showing of Brokeback Mountain at Lakeville Theaters
- A day at the Minnesota Science Museum
- Minnesota Swarm lacrosse game
I’ve got a great idea for a program. What do I do now?
- Read this entire guide!
- Gather information about the event you wish to organize, particularly group sales, limits, time frames, etc.
- Turn in your request in to Chris Rasinen (x4161) in Campus Activities a minimum of two weeks (14 days) in advance. No requests less than two weeks in advance will be considered.
- Based on numbers of people you think will go, figure your transportation needs (MAA funds only transportation). If there are:
- more than 14 people, Campus Activities will probably contract for a school bus.
- 14 or less people, Campus Activities will probably reserve college mini vans. Note: sponsors will need to find college drivers.
- Complete and submit a proposal form as soon as possible. Forms are available in the Campus Activities Office. (Please note: Some events require a longer advance purchase time. For example, if a certain number of tickets must be purchased in order to qualify for the group sales rate, then the proposal should be submitted accordingly to allow enough time to coordinate the details.)
- You will be notified whether or not your proposal has been approved. If it is, set up an appointment to meet with Chris Rasinen prior to publicizing the event.
- You will need to publicize the event across campus, and talk to Becca Campbell in Campus Activities to prepare a sign-up sheet. (Students will need to come to the Campus Activities Office to sign up for the event.)
- After the event, follow up with Campus Activities and indicate:
