Practice Interviews
What Is A Practice Interview?
Practice interviews are valuable if you want to prepare for an interview. You actually do the interview with a Career Center staff member who will ask you questions you are likely to hear from the company or organization you want to interview with. At the end of the interview you will review a videotape of the session with the staff member to go over your responses.
You may not like the idea of doing two interviews - because who likes doing interviews, really - but a practice interview will make the real interview much, much easier. So, do the not-so-fun part in the Career Center, where it doesn't count, and you will be better prepared for the job interview, where it does count.
How Do I Set Up A Practice Interview?
You may schedule a practice interview appointment with a career counselor by calling our office at x4293. You can assume the process will last between 1 - 1.5 hours. The following information will need to be submitted at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment to the reception desk at the Career Center:
- details about the position/program to which you are applying
- an overview of the organization
- your resume/cover letter
If you do not have a particular position or program in mind, please submit information for a "hypothetical" situation of interest to you.
- Dress for the practice interview in appropriate clothes for an interview.
What Do I Get Out Of It?
- Preparation for likely questions
- Confidence
- Stronger interviewing skills to increase your chance of getting a job
