Goals
- Evaluate and make preliminary decisions based on knowledge about yourself, your experiences, values, and life/career goals.
- Gain added experience and confirm or change your career choice.
- Consider graduate or professional school options.
Recommended Activities
- List tentative goals, weigh options, and make some preliminary decisions about various post-Carleton career plans. It is advisable to have a primary plan as well as a backup plan(s).
- Conduct informational interviews with alumni to learn about chosen fields.
- Talk to a career counselor about alternatives.
- Talk with faculty members about graduate school options. Conduct preliminary research on graduate programs and talk to an advisor or career counselor about the graduate school application process.
- Attend interviewing and job search workshops.
- Refine resume for internships and jobs.
- Apply for and participate in an internship.
- Schedule a practice interview in the Career Center to prepare for employment and graduate school interviews.
- Attend information sessions offered by organizations.
- Attend scholarship/fellowship information meetings.
- Decide when to take the GRE or other exams.
- Register for a lighter course load senior year to allow time for your job or graduate school search.
- Buy interview clothes over the summer before your senior year to have available on campus.
