Implementation (Fourth Step)
Goals
- Focus on a chosen career field and begin job hunt, graduate school application, or both.
- Establish contacts in a career field and/or at graduate school.
- Make a successful transition from student to employee or graduate student.
Recommended Activities
- Attend required senior meetings for on-campus recruiting.
- Seek advice on graduate school from appropriate faculty members.
- Take the GRE or other required graduate school exams.
- Review the Carleton College Online Alumni Directory to identify people in occupations or graduate programs who can provide information for your job search and graduate school application process.
- Attend job fairs.
- Attend information sessions and participate in on-campus recruiting opportunities.
- Explore online job search resources.
- Establish a file in which references are collected to support current and/or future job searches and graduate school applications.
- Read the bi-weekly Career Center Bulletin.
- Write a budget for the first year out of school.
- Complete the Career Center Senior Survey during Senior Week.
- Read books and online resources on how to be successful your first year on the job.
