Goals

  • Focus on a chosen career field and begin job hunt, graduate school application, or both.
  • Establish contacts in a career field and/or at graduate school.
  • Make a successful transition from student to employee or graduate student.

Recommended Activities

  • Attend required senior meetings for on-campus recruiting.
  • Seek advice on graduate school from appropriate faculty members.
  • Take the GRE or other required graduate school exams.
  • Review the Carleton College Online Alumni Directory to identify people in occupations or graduate programs who can provide information for your job search and graduate school application process.
  • Attend job fairs.
  • Attend information sessions and participate in on-campus recruiting opportunities.
  • Explore online job search resources.
  • Establish a file in which references are collected to support current and/or future job searches and graduate school applications.
  • Read the bi-weekly Career Center Bulletin.
  • Write a budget for the first year out of school.
  • Complete the Career Center Senior Survey during Senior Week.
  • Read books and online resources on how to be successful your first year on the job.
  • Remember it's never too late to begin the process of self-assessment. Make an appointment with a career counselor to get started.
