College Board of Business Consultants (CBBC)
Purpose:
To connect motivated, energetic college students to local business people for short projects attempting to study, research and potentially solve real world business dilemmas. The CBBC is a community volunteer Board, consisting of students from St. Olaf and Carleton College. The Student Board, started in Fall of 2005, is sponsored by First National Bank, Community Resource Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. The Board is administered by the Northfield Enterprise Center (NEC).
Projects will likely fall into three basic categories:
- Market research
- Developing marketing plans
- Developing business plans for start-up businesses
Details:
- Students are selected through a rigorous selection process and are paired with projects depending on their experiences and areas of interest
- The CBBC will recruit both Carleton and St. Olaf college students
- 1-year commitment with opportunity to re-apply each spring
Time Commitment:
There are three 60 minute group meetings scheduled in the Fall (Sept., Oct., Nov.) and another three meetings in the Winter (Feb., Mar., Apr.) with additional time spent individually or in groups to work with local business people. It is envisaged that students will spend on average three hours a week on their respective projects.
Benefit to Students:
Students will meet and network with business people and can benefit from applying their education to real world examples while giving back to the community. While this is an unpaid opportunity the CBBC provides a resume building experience that could lead to a summer internship or a job in the future.
