Working Abroad

Did you take an off-campus studies trip and suddenly find the traveling bug has hit? If you want to go abroad again (and maybe make a little money this time) we can help you find an internship, a summer job, or a full-time job in another country.

Below are links sorted by continent, as well as general links. Have fun browsing. Also, be sure to check in at the Career Center and ask about any recent job postings or internships that have come in with an international focus.

General Links

  • Spotlight on Careers - This site is maintained by a number of liberal arts colleges with links designed especially for liberal arts students in a variety of different fields. Look for the links on International Business, International Employment, and Teaching Overseas.
  • Internship Database - Our database has a large number of jobs overseas. Search for internships in categories like: International Business, International Teaching, Foreign Service, International Government, and International Voluntary Service.
  • Goinglobal.com - This comprehensive website has international, country-specific career guides on 23 countries, to which Carleton has subscribed. Log in with your Carleton username and password to view the guides.
  • Univ. of Texas (Austin) International Jobs website - This extensive site will help you get started on your search for an international job or career. Included are the myths, facts and strategies of finding a job overseas, along with a database of short and long-term international jobs.
  • InterAction.org - InterAction is the largest alliance of U.S.-based international development and humanitarian nongovernmental organizations. Over 160 members operate in every developing country to overcome poverty, exclusion, and suffering by advancing social justice and basic dignity for all.
  • Jobsabroad.com - You will find jobs posted here for many countries, all the way from England to Russia to Yemen. This site is geared more toward those who can work abroad for longer than a summer (ie.- those graduating) although there are internships posted. For internships check out their sister site, internabroad.com.
  • The Foreign Service - Learn how to become a Foreign Service Officer for the State Department and what a FSO is and does. Read up on requirements, and take a look at jobs currently available.
  • Hostels.com - Hostelling is, put simply, the act of staying in hostels while you're on your travels. Largely referred to as 'backpacking', this form of travel is usually done on a budget and is not for the faint at heart. Properties on Hostels.com range from traditional bures in Fiji to campsites in Florence.
  • Peace Corps - They can take you pretty much anywhere in the world. Look for their recruiters on campus or check the schedule to see when they'll be here next.
  • Transitions Abroad-Information on working, studying, traveling, and living abroad.
  • Go Abroad- Provides program lishtings for the following international opportunities: studying, interning, teaching or learning language, volunteering, and working.
  • Fulbright Opportunities- This site provides a program overview as well as resources for U.S. and non-U.S. students interested in Fulbright scholarships and grants.
  • Rotary International- Click on the RI Programs heading for information on how to get involved in the Rotary's international service projects.
  • One Small Planet- Check out the guide to international work/study/trave/volunteer opportunities.
  • OverseasJobs.com - Features international job opportunities for professionals, expatriates and adventure seekers.
  • International Business Directory - Lists thousands of companies in countries around the world. Search by country or by industry, and the results rae displayed in English.
  • Back Door Jobs- Back Door Jobs posts short-term job listings. Visit the Opportunities Abroad section.
  • United Nations Outreach- Here you'll find a few links to sites with job listings but no further information or guides to international careers.
  • Global Careers - An established recruiting firm dedicated to providing quality recruitment and other cost effective placement services to companies of all sizes.
  • AnyWho.com - offers access to international directories all over the world and displays search results in English.
  • S.E.A. Semester - Learn at sea. For recent grads or undergrads.
