Engagement Wanted Program

A new networking tool for the Class of 2009

Seniors are invited to sign up for "Engagement Wanted," a pilot program to help the Class of 2009 send their requests for opportunities & advice out to Carleton's alumni, parents, and friends.

How does it work? It's simple:

  1. You fill out a short "Engagement Wanted" ad (here's how) describing yourself and the opportunity you're seeking: full-time work, internship, summer job, advice on breaking into a certain field, etc.
  2. Your ad gets emailed to alumni and parent volunteers. Beginning April 10, we'll start sending a weekly digest of "Engagement Wanted" ads to alumni and parent volunteers.
  3. Connections happen. The volunteers will read your ad and contact you if they have any advice, contacts, or opportunities to offer.

Examples

Here are some examples of "Engagement Wanted" ads:

Taking a breather before med school, aiming for a year-long research opportunity. Biology major, biochemistry concentrator, research experience every summer since senior year of high school. I would be happy to send you examples of past work; research interests are wide-ranging and flexible. Heard of anything in your area?

Passionate advocate for social justice seeks employment with equally passionate nonprofit agency.  Through my political science education plus extensive volunteer work and activism has given me I have constructed a strong foundation in social issues & advocacy. Special areas of interest include urban poverty and children's health, but I'd consider any organization working to make the world a better and more just place.

I want to see the world! Service, business, and other opportunities welcome. Qualifications: sociology/anthropology major, fluent in French, 4 year volunteer for Habitat and Kids for Conservation, went on the political economy program in China, comfortable anywhere, remarkably strong stomach.  Interested in any part of the world. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Start your "Engagement Wanted" profile today.

You can fill out your "Engagement Wanted" profile and ad through CarlTown, our new social networking site. Here's how to get started:

  1. Log in to CarlTown at: http://carltown.carleton.edu
  2. Sign in with your current Carleton username and password.
  3. Once you're signed in, click the "Profile" link in the top navigation menu.
  4. Click the link that says "Edit this profile".
  5. Fill out your profile as completely as you can, including your contact information in the Contact tab and ALL fields on the Engagement Wanted tab. Remember to include non-Carleton contact information, especially an email address that will work after you've graduated.
  6. If your ad isn't ready to share yet, or you want to discontinue it (because you've already landed that dream opportunity, we hope!), just go to the Engagement Wanted tab and check the option that says "Don't share my profile with parents and alumni." That will suppress it from the Engagement Wanted emails to alumni and parent volunteers.

Alumni and parents who opt in for the Engagement Wanted emails will receive:

  • Your name, home town, and major
  • Your Engagement Wanted advertisement
  • Your contact information
  • Your photo (if included in your CarlTown profile)
  • Your list of interests (if included in your CarlTown profile)
