Fellowships

What is a fellowship?

A fellowship is a paid educational experience that can take you pretty much anywhere in the world you want to go.

Basically, if you've always wanted to research some idea or take some adventure in some far-off place, you should apply for a junior fellowship. Be creative and be original. The Dean of the College offers up to $3000 for a summer experience.

What is a Junior Fellowship?

Here's some quick definitions:

  • Junior: A student in his/her third year of collegiate education.
  • Fellowship: A paid educational experience.
  • Junior Fellowship: A paid educational experience, sponsored by Carleton for students to do during the summer between their junior and senior year.

Basically, if you've always wanted to research some idea or take some adventure in some far-off place, you should apply for a junior fellowship. Be creative and be original.

For example, alum Marek Grabowski '02 went to Poland the summer before his senior year to interview resistance fighters who fought against the Nazi occupation during World War II. Carleton paid for the trip. Click here to visit the Dean of the College Office website for more information about Junior Fellowships.

Seniors can apply for fellowships, too! Learn about the options you have for paid educational experiences after you graduate.
