Working and Interning in Europe

A popular destination, and with good reason.

  • Bunac - Bunac specializes in helping American students work in English speaking countries like Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. They will take care of visa procedures, help find you jobs, and put you in contact with students your own age. Pick up a brochure in the Career Center or visit their website.
  • Deutscher Bundestag Internship Program - This academic-year program in Germany includes graduate-level study at the Humboldt-Universität in Berlin and an internship with the German Bundestag. The grant includes monthly allowance, covers all tuition, fees, housing, insurance, and administrative costs of the program. Carleton alum Raya Widenoja '02 participated in this program as a graduate student.
  • Jobsabroad.com - Jobs posted are for many countries throughout Europe. Be prepared to teach English, although there are other options. Geared more toward those who can work abroad for longer than a summer (ie-those graduating) although there are internships posted. For internships check out their sister site, internabroad.com.
  • Internship Database - The Internship Database holds a number of links for European internships.
  • The Mountbatten Internship Programme - Offers young Americans with a Bachelor's degree the opportunity to pursue a 12-month paid internship in the business environment of a London based organization.
  • Rick Steve's Europe - With 30 years of travel experience, Rick Steves knows his stuff. Here you'll find thousands of articles on trip planning, a community of travelers, guided tours, and a travel store.
  • WORKgateways - An employment portal that allows graduates to seek available U.K. employment in their specific field. Also provides U.K. wage, bank account, visa and accommodation information that will enable those interested to adequately plan and prepare for their trip. There is also a community-based forum and monthly e-newsletter to assist in any questions or concerns prospective job seekers may have.
