Cannon River Community Land Trust

  • Assess future viability of the land trust model in light of the economic situation  

Northfield Community Action Center

  • Raise awareness of homelessness in Rice County.
  • Assess the current state of advocacy around changing the federal definition of homelessness to be more inclusive.

Rice County Habitat for Humanity

  • Update and improve format and accessibility of the organization's website.
  • Research and implement effective means of fundraising for HFH.

Three Rivers Community Action Center, Inc.

  • Qualitative and/or quantitative homelessness assessment of Rice County.
  • Paint public housing apartments in Faribault.
  • Serve as a researchers for the Wilder Foundation's one-day study of homelessness in Minnesota.
  • Track housing values using GIS to determine the impact of foreclosed properties.

Additional Projects (not directly affiliated with a particular organization) 

  • Research the needs and issues affecting mobile homeowners, specifically related to the economic downturn.
  • Research housing programs and services for immigrants.
  • Identity clients and gaps in services, especially for immigrants.
  • Create GIS maps of housing proximity to needs and services such as medical care and grocery stores.
  •  Assess how funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 addresses the housing needs in Northfield and Rice County.
