Jody Friedow Moving to Institutional Research and Assessment

Jody Friedow will soon be moving across campus to a new position. Jody is well-known to many as an Application Analyst in Information Technology Services (ITS), supporting Colleague, Cognos, OnBase, and other technologies. As of July 21, Jody will move to Hoppin House as Assistant Director of Institutional Research and Assessment.

Jody has been in ITS at Carleton since 1993. Before Carleton, she worked at Barnard College of Columbia University (1983-1993) as Director of Alumnae Records and Fundraising Information Systems, as Director of Campaign Information Systems and Special Projects Consultant, and as Senior Associate Director of Admissions (among other admissions positions). She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Iowa State University.

Jody will be greatly missed in ITS, but she will continue to offer her expertise in a key role at Carleton. She will continue using her strong computing background, while exploring a growing interest in Institutional Research and Assessment (IRA). She has supported IRA’s programming needs in the past, and will continue to do so. She will serve as IRA’s Department of Education (IPEDS) data coordinator, and she will play an important role in the development of a data warehouse, in automating IRA reporting, and in developing IRA’s Web pages.

On-line Pay Advices (Earnings Statements)

In our continuing pursuit of “green” initiatives at Carleton, all faculty, staff, and student employees can now access their payroll and leave information from anywhere they have Internet access.

The Pay Advice Portal and Leave Balance Portal (for bi-weekly employees) opened today! Effective July 1, all employee pay advices (earnings statements) will be distributed electronically. These documents will be delivered through Carleton’s secure Internet portal, The Hub. Historical documents, for the previous three years, are also available. Check it out now to compare your most recent pay advice with the new electronic format.

In the future, on each pay date, employees will receive an e-mail message from the payroll office with a link to The Hub. At the site, you will log in with your Carleton User ID and Password. Select Employees. Select Pay Advice. Choose the pay period you wish to review. Please remember that your Carleton password should always be kept confidential. We are delighted to bring this new site to you!

We have prepared responses to frequently asked questions. If you have other questions or concerns, please contact the Payroll Office:

Work on the Outdoor Track Begins Monday, July 14

The first phase of work on the track will involve the demolition of the existing horizontal jump and pole vault facilities, removal of the sidewalk north of the track/south of the West Gym, some tree removal, and regrading. Construction of the new runways may begin as early as Wednesday, July 16. The remaining construction will follow, and we anticipate that all of the major site work will be completed by early August. We intend to have the disturbed areas seeded and mulched prior to the return of athletes in mid-August. Schedule for the installation of the synthetic surface on the runways and restriping of the track has not been determined. It is possible that this work may be delayed until after the return of students. Except for closing the track for a portion of a day or two, there will be no disruption to other activities or movement. Access on the Stadium drive to the West Gym should remain open throughout this project. Please contact me if you have any questions about this work.

Sayles-Hill Remodeling this Summer

Upper Sayles-Hill mezzanine area is getting a face lift this summer. Work began last week and is expected to be finished late August. This decision for change was in conjunction with the input of students to improve usage of this area. The changes include: walls sheet rocked as needed and painted, new carpet throughout, additional electrical plugs added for students computers, and new furniture including many lamps. The arcade games will be removed and the pool tables will be moved to the south side. New stair treads will be installed on the stairs by the Bookstore.

The computer lab will be closed during the remodel as well as the entire mezzanine area above Great Space. Please bear with us (and the dust) while this work is done. The improvements are expected to enhance the future use of this area. Contact Kirk Campbell if you have any questions about this project.

Aslo note that Campus Activities (160) and Student Organizations (150) are trading spaces this summer in Sayles-Hill. Additional office walls are being added to the area where Student Organizations is currently located to accommodate the Campus Activities office. The offices are scheduled to be in their new space mid-August. Please contact Dan Stadler if you have questions about this work.
