Planning for the Unthinkable

October 31st, 2006

By Marla Holt

As parents of two young children, Matt Forster and Sarah Blaisdell Forster took the usual step of setting up a will to provide for their family in the event of their deaths.

But the Forsters, both 1993 Carleton graduates, also took a more unusual action—at least for people their age—of adding a provision to their will that gives some of their assets to Carleton.

“Setting up our will really forced us to have a conversation about what organizations have been important in our lives,” says Sarah. “We wanted to highlight what was significant to us.”

They encourage all Carls to consider a will provision, regardless of their age and the size of the gift.

“Obviously we’re expecting to live a long time, but just in case something were to happen, we wanted our children and our families to know that Carleton has meant a lot to us,” Matt says, “and to know that it was our intent to support the College.”

Through their will provision, the Forsters are helping Carleton’s talented students acquire the skills they need to become the world’s next generation of leaders.
