Graduates Turn in Final Assignment
June 30th, 2007
Before leaving Carleton in spring 2007, members of the Class of 2007 took their first steps as soon-to-be alums by raising $2,235 for a senior class gift, surpassing their goal of $2,007.
In a letter to classmates, the senior gift committee encouraged donations by making a salient point about what goes on at Carleton on any given day:
We all know that this college is an amazing place to spend four years of one's life. Where else will we have the opportunity to choose, on a typical Wednesday evening, between a lecture on globalization by a renowned expert, a performance of a Mozart symphony by a visiting orchestra, or a delicious barbecue thrown by a hall director? Not many places.
Brennan Taylor '07, a member of the committee, helped spread the word about the senior gift. She appreciated the opportunity to explain how gifts to the Alumni Annual Fund are a great way to support current students.
"Although some people were disappointed at first that the senior gift wasn't something more tangible, talking to them about the Alumni Annual Fund usually persuaded them that it was more valuable than they might think," says Brennan. "After all, if each class gave a commemorative rock every year, the Bald Spot would be full of them."
