Andrea Grove Iseminger Endowed Scholarship for Off-Campus Studies

March 1st, 2003

As students seek to become more sophisticated about what’s going on in the world, colleges are offering a greater diversity of study-abroad options. Carleton has long been a leader in this area, currently sending students to six continents. More than two-thirds of Carleton students participate in an off-campus study program by the time they graduate, and thanks to a new scholarship, crossing borders will be a little easier for them.

The Andrea Grove Iseminger Endowed Scholarship for Off-Campus Studies, a fund created to honor retired Off-Campus Studies director Andrea Grove Iseminger ’59, provides funding to students eligible for financial aid who have little or no experience abroad. The scholarship helps pay for ancillary costs of off-campus programs, from vaccinations to passport fees. Iseminger, who retired in 2001, started working at Carleton in 1971 and spent 18 years in the Off-Campus Studies office. The fund was established by her mother, Marion Burnett Grove ’29, and her sister and brother-in-law, Karen Grove Feldt ’61 and Carleton trustee William Feldt ’61.

“Andrea grew the program to become one of the best in the world,” Karen Feldt said at the presentation of their gift in October 2002. “She gave thousands of Carleton students the opportunity to engage their minds and stretch their limits.”
