Time Away From School for a Credit Internship

A student may develop a credit internship for a term or summer when the work experience can be used in significant theoretical or practical ways to augment or extend some areas of faculty instruction. Internships are limited to 12 credits and are usually taken off campus. First-year students may not carry credit internships. Students planning credit internships should consult with the staff of the Career Center and the faculty member who will supervise the internship for credit. The adviser can play an important role by asking advisees whether they have considered planning an internship as part of their academic program, how an internship might fit their long-term goals and how an internship would affect their academic program and progress towards the degree. In general, the adviser should refer the student to the Career Center for information, advice and forms for requesting approval and credit.
