ACCESSIBILITY

Carleton’s Philosophy Statement on Accessibility

Carleton College is committed to providing equal access and reasonable accommodation for eligible individuals with disabilities. The College’s immediate goal is the readily achievable integration of those with disabilities into the life of the College. The College will continue to plan for improved access to academic programs, co-curricular activities, employment and facilities, and to increase awareness of access issues among students, faculty and staff.

Each division and department within the College is responsible for ensuring that all visitors and guests that they invite are made to feel welcome, and that appropriate disability accommodations have been provided for those who require this service.

For assistance with planning for guests and visitors, please contact the following departments:

  • Facilities (x4133) - provides assistance with building and facility accessibility on campus
  • Information Technology Services (x4286) - help with any necessary assistive technology used for presentations
  • Andy Christensen, Wellness Center (x4080) - information regarding student disability services, including academic accommodations.

When using printed invitations or advertisements to invite guests to campus, please include a disability statement inviting individuals with disabilities to request reasonable accommodations prior to the event/meeting. An advanced notification of special needs or accommodations will help with planning the event.

Please communicate to the faculty in your department that Andy Christensen, Coordinator of Disability Services (x4080) is prepared to work with students with special learning needs and disabilities. If a student informs a faculty member that he or she has a disability that might require special consideration, it would be advisable to work with Andy from the start to create a reasonable plan.
