Chemicals and Hazardous Waste

CHEMICALS AND HAZARDOUS WASTE

As mandated by OSHA and the EPA, all departments that use chemicals or hazardous materials must meet OSHA and EPA standards for storage, use, and disposal of those materials. Questions regarding the storage and disposal of chemicals can be sent to the College’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety (Elisabeth Haase).

Those academic departments using hazardous chemicals must have a chemical hygiene plan and provide appropriate training, based on their department-specific plan, for all employees and students who work with those materials. Brian Mars is the Chemical Hygiene Officer for the campus as mandated by OSHA. Information on how to develop a chemical hygiene plan for your department, if applicable, can be obtained through Brian.

Non academic departments should work with the Department of Environmental Health and Safety to ensure that their chemical use plans are applicable and complete.

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety is the College’s designated coordinator for Hazardous Waste on campus. All hazardous waste will be handled according to the campus Hazardous Waste Management Plan which is available from either Brian or Elisabeth.
