Consortium for Faculty Diversity

CONSORTIUM FOR FACULTY DIVERSITY

Carleton is a member of the Consortium for Faculty Diversity (CFD) program. The goal of this program is to assist minority scholars in the early stages of their career and to produce a pool of minority scholars who will have firsthand experience teaching at liberal arts colleges. Our goal is to hire one of these applicants as a CFD Fellow each academic year. Departments and programs are encouraged to discuss with the Dean the advantages a CFD Fellow would offer them in any year.  The Dean will determine which departments are eligible to interview applicants.

Each pre-doctoral CFD Fellow teaches two courses per year (post-doctoral Fellows teach three) and may supervise comps and/or independent studies; the Fellow should be in residence all three terms. Half time should be reserved for research and writing, specifically to complete the dissertation.

CFD Fellows will be assigned a mentor through the College mentoring program. You should encourage your CFD Fellow to participate in the mentoring program, Learning and Teaching Center sessions, and department and college activities. One goal of the program is to help Fellows learn to be effective teachers. Another is to help them learn as much as possible about how a select liberal arts college works.

Each fellow on the job market will receive support to attend a relevant professional meeting for job interviews and the annual CFD conference.
