DEPARTMENT RETREATS

A departmental retreat can help to change perspective, causing colleagues to examine assumptions and to justify, revise, or reject them. It can be valuable for building collegiality and a sense of common purpose.

Because funds to support retreats are limited, the Chair should submit a request for money that includes the proposed plans for the retreat (goals, meeting location, etc.)

Every year questions arise about a time for department retreats during new student week. The reality is there's no good time to hold a retreat on Wednesday or Thursday or Friday that does not interfere with events scheduled for new students and their families and involving faculty.
