SALARY RECOMMENDATIONS - FACULTY
The Dean and President rely on information from department chairs when making faculty salary decisions. In February, you will be asked to write a letter about all of your departmental colleagues (which will be due in March). The Dean and President already have information from the prior year’s biennial reports and department reports. But they want to know your perspective about people’s activities and contributions over the past year and will ask for your judgment about who should be distinguished from the majority of faculty doing good solid work, either above or below the norms, and why. Sometimes a colleague has borne an extraordinary burden of work of which the Dean and President are unaware - onerous responsibilities for recruiting, directing “comps”, organizing symposia, etc. Make these functions known.
