HUMAN RESOURCES

Admissions

  • Increase significantly our pool of talented, diverse applicants
  • Re-evaluate our principles and policies regarding financial aid

Students and Student Life

  • Redesign some of our extracurricular programs to improve students' learning and living environment

Faculty and Staff

  • Adopt new strategies to increase and strengthen the College community of faculty and staff of color
  • Intensify our commitment to staff and faculty development
  • Reaffirm our commitment to fair and competitive compensation for all employees

Alumni

  • Extend our current programs and initiatives which bring alumni into closer partnership with the College

PROGRAMS

  • Provide more coordination and oversight of the curriculum by creating a programs and curriculum committee to advise the Dean of the College on decisions related to the academic program
  • Reassess and perhaps restructure the curricular organization of the College, including departments, interdisciplinary programs, majors,
    concentrations, area studies, and special majors
  • Rejuvenate the advising system, particularly for first-year students
  • Examine the senior year, paying particular attention to the senior integrative exercise and the transition out of Carleton College

DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES, COMMUNICATION, AND COMMUNITY

  • Review decision-making processes and improve communication
  • Develop initiatives to enhance our sense of common purpose

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT (IN ORDER OF PRIORITY)

  • Develop a Center for the Arts
  • Expand the capacity of the library
  • Ensure a sufficient number of high-quality classrooms
  • Develop a Center for Modern Languages
  • Construct additional on-campus student housing
  • Consolidate several offices into a single Student Administrative Services Center
  • Develop and improve academic space for departments in the humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary programs
  • Renovate the Burton kitchen, serving, and dining areas
  • Renovate Scoville
  • Renovate Goodsell, perhaps as a Center for Interdisciplinary Studies
