Visualizing the Liberal Arts Grants
Do you have a course or an assignment in mind that engages with visual objects and technologies? Are you looking for resources and support to design new visual strategies for your class? Viz can help!
We invite proposals for grants to support curricular development in visual pedagogies. The competition is open to all Carleton faculty who wish to innovate and to stretch their engagement with the visual in new directions. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have not received previous Viz funding and to those who have participated in the curatorial workshop with a view to producing work in Fall 2012.
Grant Details:
- Course Revision Stipends will fund short periods of work during breaks ($600 per week) for faculty who wish to create a new visual assignment or revise an existing course to incorporate visual materials.
- Course Development Stipends will fund faculty for up to 6 weeks ($3600) during breaks to develop substantially new courses.
- Where appropriate to the proposed project, academic support professionals will be available to work with the faculty member to identify relevant resources, support, or expertise in order to develop a concrete production plan. The grant particularly seeks to encourage partnerships among faculty members and staff.
In addition to stipends, faculty may request funding for:
- Consultants to help determine learning goals, identify and use the appropriate technology, estimate time requirements, and identify sources of support for students. These consultants might include faculty colleagues with experience in visual assignments or technologies, or students with the necessary technological expertise.
- Resources and materials and occasionally outside speakers for classes. Please contact the director for further information about these possibilities.
Recipients of Viz grants are encouraged to attend the December break workshop in 2011 and are required to submit assignments and other relevant course materials to the Viz database.
Submit applications of up to 1,000 words to Victoria Morse by February 1, 2012. Please specify in your application the nature of your curriculum revision or development project including details about the assignments that you expect to develop, the amount and type of support you are seeking, when you intend to undertake the work and teach the relevant courses, and whatever other information you feel will assist the Viz Steering Committee in understanding how your project fits with the goals of the Viz Initiative.
