- observe a small family farm in the Midwest to research the parallel evolutions of agricultural practice and agrarian philosophy.
- travel to Ecuador's Amazon rain forest and the Andes Mountains to conduct interviews and oral histories of shamans and to investigate their changing roles and impact of materialism and Modern medicine.
- travel to Taos, New Mexico to participate in the ritual and spiritual lifestyle of its members and to gain an understanding of their fieldwork, life, and non-traditional religious community.
- create a documentary film about the quest to get my hometown to adopt a resolution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to illustrate to the federal government that through innovative thinking, we can stop climate change and sustain a healthy Earth.
- volunteer at Lambert House, a center for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth and allies; interviewing gay males to examine the situations and development of these men into their current relationships with politics.
These topics constitute suggestions; other topics are possible. Students are urged to consult with faculty early in the process of drawing up their proposals.
