Independent Research Fellowship Examples
- an art history project requiring travel to study the art in question;
- an anthropology project involving field work in a distant place;
- an historical project depending upon access to manuscript sources located elsewhere;
- attendance at a summer music program aimed at instructing and developing college-aged musicians;
- science research, conducted either independently or a part of a research group;
- an oral history of a particular group of people;
- cross-cultural studies of people's attitudes and beliefs surrounding particular issues;
- an internship in a studio or with an artist;
- participation on an archaeological dig;
- studying gravestones as social documents;
- study the geomorphology of a barrier island and its historical changes for the purpose of understanding its impact on the nesting grounds of loggerhead turtles;
- explore children's illustrations and storytelling that appeals to adults; or
- proglacial sedimentology and geomorphology of a jokulhlaup-affected sandur plain in Southeastern Iceland.
These topics constitute suggestions; other topics are possible. Students are urged to consult with faculty early in the process of drawing up their proposals.
