Carleton College

Lofgren Fellowship

Purpose: The Lofgren Fellowship, established in 1984 by the late Charles Lofgren, Sr. '27, is intended to encourage mid-career Carleton alumni with established commitments to a career in business to consider further educational opportunities (typically an M.B.A.), and to expand their horizons and leadership roles within the for-profit sector of the economy.

Carleton alumni should be interested in focusing on basic courses in the disciplines relevant to business and the political economy, but other programs of business-related study can be proposed.

Funding: Fellowships typically cover all or a portion of tuition, fees, and related costs for up to two years of study. In addition, other costs deemed appropriate by the committee, such as transportation or housing, may also be considered.

Eligibility: In general, applicants are Carleton alumni 30-45 years of age who are established in a business career and are interested in:

  • full-time study;
  • intensive programs such as an executive MBA; or
  • part-time study intended as a program rather than an occasional course

Application Process: Applicants should provide to the Selection Committee (composed of Carleton faculty, staff, and alumni business executives):

  • a resume of your career since Carleton (include references)
  • proposed course of study (indicate how the course of study would be of benefit to you at this stage in your career and how you believe it would contribute to your ability to solve major problems confronting your company, the corporate sector as a whole and/or the larger economy)
  • institutions to which you will apply for acceptance

Application Deadline: Monday, October 13, 2007

Awards will be announced by December 15, 2007.

Selection Criteria: Fellowship awards will be made contingent on your acceptance into an appropriate institution and course of study.
