Newman Application
Students must first apply (in the fall or winter term) to the organization sponsoring the language internship. This process needs to start early since these programs can fill up, have long lead times, or an extensive application process. Once a student is accepted into an internship which meets the criteria, applicants should submit one copy of their proposal including the following:
1. A cover sheet including:
- Your name and major
- Name of internship organization you are applying to (include confirmation letter from organization)
- Name of country
- Paragraph (no more than 100 words) describing the internship.
- Name of your faculty recommender (Note: It is the student's responsibility to ask a faculty member for a letter of recommendation. The deadline for the recommendation to be received by the Career Center is February 15, 2008. Please give the recommender a copy of your application and provide them with 30 days notice. If the recommender is not able to meet the deadline, please ask someone else.) It is the student’s responsibility for seeing that the recommendation is received by the deadline.
- A brief statement exploring your qualifications for undertaking this work and the relationship of the internship to your future goals. Include a description of previous experience abroad (if any).
2. Unofficial transcript
3. Budget Worksheet (see PDF file)
4. “Bring Back” Internship Form (see PDF file)
Special Note: Students cannot use fellowships, scholarships, or internships to study or travel to countries where the United States does not have a favorable relationship or where travel by U.S. citizens is not advised. Recipients affected by travel warnings or restricted travel should contact the Career Center office.
