Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

Purpose: The Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship identifies intelligent and involved students and helps them carry out their dreams. The Graduate Scholarship Program will award approximately 40 scholarships to outstanding college seniors or recent graduates to attend graduate programs starting in fall 2008. Two students from each institution can be nominated.

Funding: Each scholarship will cover a portion of educational costs, including tuition, living expenses, books, and other required fees. The amount and duration of awards vary by student, depending on the total cost attendance and other scholarships or grants received. The maximum amount available for each Scholar is $50,000 per year for up to six years. Scholars may pursue any graduate or professional degree at any accredited college or university.

Eligibility:

  • Be a college senior or recent graduate (since spring 2003) from an accredited college or university
  • Have a cumulative college grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent)
  • Plan to start first graduate degree program full-time at an accredited university in fall 2008
  • Have unmet financial need
  • Be nominated by Carleton and have not been previously nominated for a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

Selection Criteria: With assistance from a panel of national experts, the Foundation will select Scholars using these criteria:

  • Academic achievement
  • Unmet Financial need
  • Will to succeed
  • Leadership and/or public service
  • Critical-thinking ability
  • Appreciation for or participation in the arts and humanities

ELECTRONIC APPLICATION PROCESS TO BE COMPLETED BY THE APPLICANT:

  • Students must start the on-line application process by February 1, 2008 by going to the Jack Kent Cooke website www.jackkentcookefoundation.org and following the instructions
  • Two recommendations will need to be completed on-line and submitted to the foundation. Students will be asked to supply e-mail addresses during the on-line application process and the recommendors will receive e-mails with instructions about how to submit recommendations

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION TO BE SUBMITTED BY THE APPLICANT TO THE DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OFFICE BY THE ON-CAMPUS DEADLINE:

  • Official College Transcript(s) for ALL undergraduate coursework, including the fall 2007
  • Financial Information Forms and Financial Attachments downloaded and printed from the Jack Kent Cooke website during the on-line application process. Parent financial information is required regardless of age or independent status of student. Applications with missing parent financials are only considered under rare circumstances
  • Applicant Tax Forms (can submit 2006 IRS forms, if 2007 are not available)
  • Parent's Tax Forms
  • Portfolio for Applicants in the Arts - required

Application materials will be reviewed by Carleton's Student Fellowships Committee who will select Carleton's nominee(s). We will then complete the electronic nominaction process.

ELECTRONIC NOMINATION PROCESS TO BE COMPLETED BY ELIZABETH CINER, ASSOCIATE DEAN OF THE COLLEGE:

  • Institution Nomination(s) - each institution may nominate up to two (2) students or recent graduates
  • Institution Nomination Rationale for each nominee

NOMINEES SELECTED BY CARLETON MUST FAX COPIES OF THE FOLLOWING TWO (2) ITEMS TO JACKE KENT COOKE (AS SOON AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE) BY MAY 5. THE FAX NUMBER IS: 319-337-1204.

  • Financial Award Information from Graduate School(s)

On-campus Deadline: Friday, February 15, 2008

  • Bring completed application materials to Danette DeMann in the Dean of the College Office (Laird 144) by 5 p.m.

Official Deadline for submission to the Foundation: Friday, March 14, 2008
