Purpose:  The Beinecke Scholarship program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study. Carleton is 1 out of approximately 100 colleges and universities that are invited to participate in this program.

Application process: Please read the Program Announcement. Listed below are the application materials that are needed in order to apply. Send completed application materials to Karen Moldenhauer (3-DOC) in the Dean of the College Office by the on-campus deadline.

• Application Form
• Current resume
• Personal statement of 1,000 words or less from the nominee describing his or her background, interests, plans for graduate study and career aspirations. The statement should include a discussion of some experiences and ideas that have shaped those interest, plans and aspirations.
• Three letters of recommendation from faculty members (either on- or off-campus) that assess the nominee's intellectual curiosity, character and potential for advanced graduate study. These need to be on letterhead and signed! Faculty can send them directly to Karen Moldenhauer (3-DOC).
• Official transcript - have the Registrar's Office send to Karen Moldenhauer (3-DOC)
• Other materials considered directly relevant to the nominee's application.

Nomination process: All applications will be read by the Student Fellowships Committee who will choose Carleton's nominee. Once selected, the Dean of the College Office will write a letter summarizing the reason for the nominee's selection, complete a Certification of Eligibility Form, and have Student Financial Services complete a Financial Data Sheet. These will be submitted with the application materials on behalf of the applicant.

Official Deadline for Carleton to submit nomination to Beinecke: February 26, 2010.
