Earhart Fellowship

Purpose: The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards memorialize famed air pioneer and Zontian, Amelia Earhart, who disappeared over the Pacific in 1937. By remembering Amelia Earhart through this fellowship, Zonta International encourages and supports women to expand their horizons by pursuing aerospace-related science and aerospace engineering. There have been 1,052 Amelia Earhart Fellowships totaling over $5.4 million awarded to 721 fellows worldwide.

Eligibility: Women of any nationality are eligible. To apply for the fellowship, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Have completed a bachelor's degree in a qualifying area of science or engineering closely related to advanced studies in aerospace-related science or aerospace-related engineering.
  • Demonstrate a superior academic record with evidence of potential at a recognized university or college as verified by transcripts, recommendations and acceptance or verification by an institution of higher education with accredited courses in aerospace-related studies.
  • Provide evidence of a well-defined research program in aerospace-related science or aerospace-related engineering as described in the application essay, research and publications. Clearly demonstrate the relationship of your research to aerospace and furnish verification of your research program through at least one of the referees providing the recommendation required with the application.
  • By the time the fellowship grant is awarded, have completed one year of aerospace-related graduate studies at a well-recognized institution of higher education.
Application Process: Interested applicants should include the following information, along with the official application (available on the Zonta website):
  • Biographical information
  • List of schools attended and degrees received
  • Transcripts of grades and school verification form
  • Employment history
  • Plans for intended study
  • Essay on academic and professional goals
  • Photograph
  • Three recommendations from teachers (or supervisors)
  • Information other than transcripts and recommendations must be limited to the space provided; attachments will not be considered.

Campus Deadline: The application, recommendation, transcripts, and graduate acceptance or letter of current standing must be received by Monday, October 15, 2007.
