Fulbright: Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation are required. These letters are usually written by Carleton professors, but need not be. In addition to the academic recommendations, a language evaluation is also required.

It is important to speak with the recommenders during the spring term to inform them about the project and to get advice. The specific recommendation forms should not, however, be sent to the recommenders until late August or early September. The letters are due the same time as the applications—the first day of classes in the fall term.

On the front page, the information about the recommender should be the same at the top and the bottom. If in doubt about a person’s full name or rank, contact the person.

Recommenders may submit their evaluation on the reference form, or they may submit it on letterhead stationery. If they choose to do the latter, they should attach the form to their letter.
