National Endowment for the Humanities
Purpose: The Summer Internships Program of the National Endowment for the Humanities introduces promising college students to the programs, policies, and operations of the federal agency charged with promoting scholarship, education, and public programming in the humanities in the United States. Interns will be assigned, in most cases, to one office of the agency to assist with daily work and participate in the intellectual life of NEH. Typically, an intern's time will be split between routine administrative duties and an individual project that makes best use of the intern's skills, talents, and interests. For example, past interns have written articles for Humanities magazine, researched emerging fields in the humanities, and developed web-based tools for the gathering of humanities-related information.
Funding: NEH's 2008 interns will receive $4,000 for 10 weeks of work in Washington, D.C.
Eligibility: This fellowship is open to students who will be juniors or seniors in fall, 2007. Students must have declared an undergraduate major in one of the disciplines of the humanities or have a strong background in the humanities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, foreign nationals who have been legal residents for at least three years, or territorial residents.
Selection Criteria: Your interest in and commitment to the humanities and the conception, clarity, and execution of your writing samples are the primary criteria that will be used to evaluate your application.
Official Deadline: Send directly to NEH (via web) by Friday, January 4, 2008, 5 p.m. local time
