The Maria Wiese Endowed Prize
The Maria Wiese Endowed Prize was established in 1992 to honor the memory of Maria “Mary” Eugenia Wiese, this prize honors Wiese’s respect for education, her profound love for students, and her understanding of the place of education in their futures. Qualities Wiese valued in others and that formed the core of her own character were: cultural pride, kindness, perseverance, self-reliance, discipline, and respect and care for other people. This prize is awarded to a graduating senior who embodies the above qualities and who has demonstrated perseverance in overcoming challenging circumstances. To honor the pride Wiese had in her Latino culture, preference will be given to Latino students.
Please send nominations to the Office of the Dean of Students, include the student name, indicate the award/prize category, and a paragraph of support. These nominations will then be considered by selection committee(s). Any member of the Carleton community may make nominations.
