Money for Research
NEED MONEY FOR RESEARCH?
Carleton College is pleased to announce that we have set aside a modest amount of money to be used to support student research and related presentations. Activities the college will consider funding include:
- Travel to and from conferences in which students have been invited to participate;
- Publication, communication and project expenses;
- Travel to sites where research is being conducted; and
- In rare instances, travel to libraries holding special
collections.
The College may award up to $200 per student on a first-come first-served basis to help defray the cost of travel to conferences, travel to a research site, or project expenses. Interested students may apply by submitting the following information:
- A narrative description of the proposed program of research, no longer than one single-spaced page, describing the nature of the project in non-technical language;
- A budget, including other sources from which you have requested support (download form from this site);
- A current unofficial transcript;
- Where relevant, a letter of invitation to participate and/or confirmation that travel to another institution for specific material is necessary;
- Where relevant, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval;
- A letter of support from a faculty member who can evaluate the content of the project. Have faculty member send letter directly to Elizabeth Ciner, Associate Dean of the College, Laird 131.
NOTE: Items 1 through 4 are to be submitted together.
Proposals are reviewed upon completion of the items numbered above; awards will be made at that time. One grant per student per year will be considered.
Carleton is very excited to have the opportunity to support student research and related presentations. While an appointment with Dean Ciner is not necessary to begin this process, if you have questions you may contact Elizabeth Ciner, Associate Dean of the College, call x4300, or stop by the Dean of the College Office, Laird 131.
