Academic Regulations and Procedures
Major Field Requirements
A maximum of 72 credits can be required for a major, including the comprehensive examination/senior integrative exercise and required courses offered by other departments. A department may appeal to the Education and Curriculum Committee for an exception to the limit only where courses outside the department are prerequisites for courses in the department which are required for the major.
The requirements for majors are outlined in the Academic Catalog. Deviations from and substitutions for the stated requirements may be made by judgment of the appropriate authority. For established departmental majors, this authority resides with the department chair. For special majors, this authority resides with the major advisers and the Academic Standing Committee (ASC), which approves special majors.
A grade of C- or better is necessary for required courses in the major department; these courses cannot be taken on a S/Cr/NC basis. For required courses outside the major department, grades of S, C- or better are necessary.
