Security Services

EMERGENCIES 4444
Wayne Eisenhuth, Director Sayles-Hill, 4427
Security Escort Service 4444

Security Services is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and works with area police to protect persons and property in the college community. Thefts, accostings, vandalism, and occurrences that are suspicious or threatening should be reported immediately to this office which will conduct any subsequent investigations required. Thefts should be reported to the Northfield Police as well as Security Services; many items have been recovered in this way.

Call 4444 for emergencies and to summon assistance for bad accidents and sudden and severe illness.

Personal safety and crime prevention are significant aspects of life at the College. Security Services was established to assist and serve Carleton in maintaining a safe and secure campus.

Under the direction of a college administrator, 6 professionals and 15 student security officers provide such services as fire prevention and safety inspections, emergency first-aid, patrol of campus to deter criminal activity, and building security. Training in each of these areas insures competency on the part of each officer, and the variety of responsibilities associated with the position keeps the officers alert and ready to serve.

The Carleton community, like others, has had thefts, personal attacks, etc. Students should take simple but effective precautionary actions. These include locking your door at all times when you are not there during the day and while you are asleep at night, not leaving items of value in areas where they may easily be stolen (coat-racks, halls, lounges, etc.), recording serial numbers and identifying marks on valuable items, questioning all persons acting suspiciously, and generally being aware of the fact that Carleton and Northfield are not as isolated and immune from security difficulties as many have thought. The major responsibility in this area must lie with individual members of the community.

Please remember that a safe environment can neither be established nor maintained through the efforts of one department. Outside of a few preventive services that require specific skills, Security Services is dependent upon students, faculty, and staff for assistance in reaching its goal. All accidents, injuries, crimes and suspicious activity of any nature must be reported immediately to Security Services. Also, please take a moment to call Security whenever you see any unsafe condition. The seemingly insignificant incident that goes unreported may turn into a major problem.

Security Services acts as liaison with local, county and state law enforcement agencies. Students who have questions about or problems with the Northfield Police Department are encouraged to contact the Director of Security Services for assistance.

The College is not responsible for loss or damage to students' personal property.
