Transportation Options & College Vehicle Use

Transportation Options: There are various transportation options available for students. For more detailed information, including dates of service and schedules, policies, phone numbers, etc, refer to the Campus Activities website, Maps & Transportation at http://apps.carleton.edu/student/transport/

College Cars: Authorized organizations and persons may use college cars, which will be chauffeured by college-approved chauffeurs. Users will be required to pay a per/mile fee depending upon car size plus the current per/hour rate of pay for the student driver/chauffeur time. Some organizations may have an approved student driver who volunteers their time as a member of said organization. Authorization for college car use will be given by Security Services, 4443.

Students may “hitch” rides at no cost in college cars already scheduled for official business trips. Check with Security Services, 4443, to determine if a car with space available is scheduled to leave or return to Carleton at a convenient time. One should expect to be dropped off or picked up at a point along the originally scheduled route.

A list of approved chauffeurs is kept by Security Services, Sayles-Hill 205, 4443.

Attention Carleton Student Drivers

Effective August 1, 2006 - Due to requirements by the College’s insurance company, students (who become or are currently authorized to drive College vehicles) will be required to provide a certified copy of their motor vehicle records (MVR) on an annual basis in order to preserve that status. Motor vehicle records can be obtained from your State Department of Motor Vehicles. In Minnesota the cost is $10 for the record and a State run DMV office (ex.: Faribault) can issue the report or a request form can be obtained at www.dps.state.mn.us/dvs/DriverLicense/DL%20Info/DL%20frame.htm

Students who are interested in becoming authorized drivers must submit their MVR with a driver application form to Marilyn Hollinger in the Transportation Office. Students who are currently authorized to drive must turn in their MVR prior to being put back on the active list. The motor vehicle records will be shared with the College’s insurance company upon their request.
