Update on Voluntary Separation Program

June 9, 2009

Dear Carleton Staff and Faculty:

The Administrative Council met on Tuesday morning, June 9, to review the applications for the Voluntary Separation Program.  With thanks to the 20 staff members who applied for the program, we are well on our way toward making the staff reductions necessary to balance the College’s budget.  There are still many details to be understood and worked out as applications are accepted, end dates are determined, separation agreements are executed, and internal reorganization occurs to fill essential duties.  Some of the vacated positions resulting from the Voluntary Separation Program will need to be filled, and those positions will be posted for hiring as soon as possible in the coming days.

As indicated when the Voluntary Separation Program was announced, full assessment of the impact of the program and any determination about further measures will not be made until later this summer when the extent of organizational changes can be better known.

The response to the Voluntary Separation Program means we have made good progress toward meeting our goals of reducing FTE and balancing the budget.  I want to once again thank all of you for your continued support and engagement in this challenging economic environment.
