Student Storage Policy

Carleton College assumes no responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen items. This storage service is provided as an alternative to taking possessions off campus each year. Students are responsible for posted information regarding storage hours. Space is limited. Commercial storage facilities are available in Northfield.

Locations:

  • Student storage is in four main locations: Goodhue, Watson, Musser and Myers.
  • Furniture (Including lamps, shelves, tables, etc.) will not be stored.
  • Large refrigerators will not be stored. Refrigerators up to 3.5 cubic feet can be stored at any storage area.
  • Bicycles are stored only in Watson.
  • No storage is allowed in off-campus houses during the summers. Any items left will be disposed of.

Schedule:

  • Normal storage hours during the school year are from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Contact the building custodian to access storage.
  • Special hours will be posted at the end of spring term, for summer storage, and at the beginning of fall term, for removal from storage.

Storage Tickets:

  • Each stored item must have a current storage ticket. Storage tickets may be purchased at the Bookstore, located in Sayles-Hill, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Tickets cost $7 each for regular boxes (approximately 2’ x 2’ x 2’). Larger boxes and bikes are $10.
  • If you are going to study off-campus, be sure to put the date of your return on each ticket.

Restrictions:

  • Storage must be in boxes, trunks or luggage displaying a current storage ticket. Plastic bags, odd containers or loose items will not be accepted. Items such as skis must be bound and ticketed. Boxes cannot be larger than what can be hand-carried up and down stairs or lifted up from the floor to store on shelves. Custodial Services reserves the right to refuse boxes that do not meet these criteria.
  • Lofts will not be stored.
  • Boxes are available through the recycling program for storage and moving off campus. Boxes for storage can also be purchased at the Carleton Bookstore. Times and locations for cardboard box pick-up at the end of spring term will be posted.
  • Custodial Services may not be available to access elevators. All items must be small enough to carry up and down stairs.
