The Maple Street parking lot will be closed east of the construction site for utility work beginning Monday, June 2. A temporary road will allow access through the area. Temporary parking will be available Friday, June 13 through Reunion weekend. After June 22, the east side of the area will be re-curbed and paved to provide 15 parking stalls, including two handicap spaces. See the site plan showing the traffic route around the site utility work. NOTICE: The temporary Nevada Street parking lot will be available Monday, May 26 providing 26 spaces. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Nevada Street parking lot will be closed, May 15-26. Asphalt and trees will be removed from the site to begin construction of the new residence halls. The area will be reconfigured and a modified parking lot with 26 stalls will be open Monday, May 26.

Carleton began construction on two new residence halls on the southeast part of campus on Monday, May 12. Following approval on May 5 by the Northfield City Council for a Conditional Use Permit for the project, construction of the $27.5 million halls is proceeding with a goal of occupancy for fall term 2009, or September of that year.

As the College prepares for the construction of the new residence halls, a number of trees on the site will be saved, relocated or removed. There are 43 trees within the area defined as the construction zone. This does not include the boulevard trees along First Street, or the trees immediately north of the public sidewalk along First Street.

The New Residence Hall project is intended to be completed by the start of the 2009-2010 academic year. LHB Architects have completed the schematic design work for the project and they are moving into design development.

As part of its strong commitment to sustainability, Carleton is in the midst of finalizing building plans for two new LEED Gold certified dormitories. The LEED Gold dormitory project will be one of the first in Minnesota and will add more than 200 new beds on campus. LHB, a firm based in the twin-cities, and members of the Carleton community are currently finishing the schematic designs and hoping to select a contractor soon. If all goes well, the dorms will be up and running by fall of 2009.

Carleton College has announced that its Residential Life Task Force has released its final report, recommending the College begin developing plans for a first residential hall to be built in 2008. The College will begin detailed planning for two sites: adjacent to Goodhue Hall and Cowling Recreation Center.
